There were three main activities in the project:

  1. Leading Young: KYPA: firstly, facilitated logistics and itinerary for 6 out-of-town group coaching sessions of 8 persons per group. This was followed by 2 plenary half-day training sessions and one experiential retreat. The sessions focused on but not limited to Transformational leadership, good governance, transparency, Effective communication, Legacy and Succession Planning, Good Stewardship, Personality paradox, Peer support. Secondly, KYPA facilitated planning of itinerary for one-on-one coaching sessions for 48 young legislators with Certified Coaches. This was the first activity and began in year 1 of the project.
  2. Leading Young in Practice: Coupled with the theory of the trainings, each of the 6 groups had 1 practical session where they together conducted a grassroots activity in a member’s constituency, totaling to 6 grassroot activities for 250 young people per activity. These were to implement the lessons learnt through the coaching sessions and trainings and took the form of dialogue forums, discussions on accountability and mentorship sessions. This was be carried out in the second year of the project
  3. Young MCAs leadership fellowship program: As a pilot, KYPA conducted a young MCAs fellowship program, was an intensive leadership development program that aimed at nurturing young MCAs into higher levels of leadership and cultivate change-makers, who are not only responsive to societal issues, but also proactive enough to prevent them. The pilot program brought together 47 MCAs, over a 12-month period, to engage in multi-day online and offline content, while still engaging in their county assembly work. The curriculum for the fellowship was co-created by ICC and KYPA. The activity span a 12-month period.
